Natural sunlight is very useful for patients, who suffer from psoriasis. Heliotherapy, which is one of the main methods of psoriasis treatment, involves the use of natural sunlight. Why sun has a positive effect on psoriasis? Read more: https://uvb-lamps.com/blog/psoriasis-and-the-sun/.

However one should remember the danger, which occurs in case of sunburns, and positive and negative effects of UV radiation. In such cases psoriasis can make progress and invade skin areas, which were hurt by the sun.

To reduce the risk of getting a sunburn one should use the following recommendations:

  • Be sure to use sun-protection cream, applying it before procedure of getting sun tan on the whole skin, which will contact with sun light.
  • Wear sunglasses.
  • Tan only in the morning and after 4 o’clock p.m. (never get sun tan in dinner hours, when it is high sun).
  • Tan for only 10 minutes on the first day, then day-by-day add 30 seconds to the procedure of getting sun tan (in two weeks, after adaptation passes, you can get sun tan for longer time).

Handheld UVB light devices have no such side effects, because there is the possibility of exact adjustment of irradiation dose, owing to which possibility of carcinogenic effect, as well as the general radiation on organisms, high tolerability, absence of severe side effects, minimum risk of carcinogenesis owing to local impact and relatively low total irradiation dose may be considered as the advantage of phototherapy treatment for psoriasis.
